“One of the weightiest aspects of human life is I must choose.”

That is where real freedom comes in and that is a part of God’s will for your life.

John says, “One of the weightiest aspects of human life is I must choose.” He then goes on, “And my choices create my life. My choices create my destiny. I don’t want to miss that!”

Later he says, “Maybe you’re a student trying to decide which school to go to or which major to choose. Maybe you’re on the brink of an exciting adventure. Maybe you’ve been frustrated by a lost opportunity, and you wonder, Does God still have another one for me?”

This is important, “Your life is about more than safety. It’s about more than security. It’s about more than manageability. If you’re looking for that stuff, you were born into the wrong species. God has a plan for you. But that doesn’t mean God wants to make all your decisions for you.”

John continues, “Very often God’s will for you will be ‘I want you to decide’ because decision making is an indispensable part of character formation. God is primarily in the character-forming business, not the circumstance-shaping business. This means a new way of looking at life. I do not have to be afraid of failure. I do not be afraid of failure. I do not have to live in fear over circumstances. Each moment is an opportunity to look for a door that opens up into God and his presence. This means a new way of looking at myself. I am no longer limited by my smallness and weakness. The God who wants me to ‘grow up in all things into Him who is the head — Christ’ (Ephesians 4: 15, NKJV) is also the God who knows how small and weak I am. This means a new way of looking at decisions. I no longer have to live under the tyranny of the perfect choice. God can use even what looks like the ‘wrong choice if I make it with the right heart.”

One of the tremendous benefits of a relationship with Christ is that He will use our freedom of choice to grow us into the person He has planned for us to be. The first right choice is to ask Him into your life and then He can work in and through your choices.

“When you understand that life is a test, you realize that nothing is insignificant in your life.”

To realize that from God’s perspective life is a test goes a long way in determining how you handle your life. It is important to see that in testing your character is both developed and revealed. Rick goes on to say that “even the smallest incident has significance for your character development. Every day is an important day, and every second is a growth opportunity to deepen your character, to demonstrate love, or to depend on God.” So there is a God purpose behind each situation in your life. “What areas of my personality, background, and physical appearance am I struggling to accept?”

Rick posed this question at the end of his chapter, You Are Not an Accident. In this chapter he deals with the fact that God created you the way you are with a purpose. In other words you are not an accident. I am also reading the Apostle John’s view of Jesus and what He said and did while He was here on earth. In the beginning of Chapter 9 there is a story about a blind man. And the disciples who were with Him asked Him a good question, “Who sinned, this man or his parents that he was born blind? ” Have you ever asked the same thing about something in you that you don’t like? Like that characteristic is a curse or something. Society has set a standard that is not a standard of God. Remember, He created you and you are not an accident.
