“Without God’s Word you would not even be alive.”

James 1: 18 (NCV) in the New Testament in the Bible says, “God decided to give us life through the word of truth so we might be the most important of all the things he made.”

God decided to give us the opportunity for physical life, He spoke the word and we were created and He also gives us the opportunity for spiritual life, He gave us His Word, the Bible to feed on so that we might grow and mature. Such a tremendous opportunity that so many of us never use.

Rick says, “The Bible is far more than a doctrinal guidebook. God’s Word generates life, creates faith, produces change, frightens the Devil, causes miracles , heals hurts, builds character, transforms circumstances, imparts joy, overcomes adversity, defeats temptation, infuses hope, releases power, cleanses our minds, brings things into being , and guarantees our future forever! We cannot live without the Word of God! Never take it for granted. You should consider it as essential to your life as food.” Job in chapter 23 verse 12 (NIV) of his book in the Old Testament says, “I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my daily bread.”

I just had my daily banana for breakfast. I had gotten on the train and come over to Hollywood before I had eaten today’s banana and I was feeling it because I hadn’t eaten it. But I had gotten into The Bible before I had left home. I had read from Psalm 129 and in the New Testament from Galatian 3 and had written in my journal. I knew I had a full day ahead of me and I needed to hear what God had to say to me, to set the tone for my day. But so many will not miss their breakfast, their health is so important but they will miss their time with God’s Word.

Rick says, “God’s Word is the spiritual nourishment you must have to fulfill your purpose. The Bible is called our milk, bread, solid food, and sweet dessert. (1 Peter 2: 2; Matthew 4: 4, 1 Corinthians 3: 2; Psalm 119: 103) This four-course meal is the Spirit’s menu for spiritual strength and growth.”

1 Peter 2: 2 (NIV) says, “Crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.” Crave it.

“When you understand that life is a test, you realize that nothing is insignificant in your life.”

To realize that from God’s perspective life is a test goes a long way in determining how you handle your life. It is important to see that in testing your character is both developed and revealed. Rick goes on to say that “even the smallest incident has significance for your character development. Every day is an important day, and every second is a growth opportunity to deepen your character, to demonstrate love, or to depend on God.” So there is a God purpose behind each situation in your life. Rick posed this question at the end of his chapter, You Are Not an Accident. In this chapter he deals with the fact that God created you the way you are with a purpose. In other words you are not an accident. I am also reading the Apostle John’s view of Jesus and what He said and did while He was here on earth. In the beginning of Chapter 9 there is a story about a blind man. And the disciples who were with Him asked Him a good question, “Who sinned, this man or his parents that he was born blind? ” Have you ever asked the same thing about something in you that you don’t like? Like that characteristic is a curse or something. Society has set a standard that is not a standard of God. Remember, He created you and you are not an accident.
